Section 701.17.23. Sales to other states and their political subdivisions.

  • On and after July 1, 1990, gross receipts from the sale of tangible personal property or from the furnishing of electrical energy, natural or artificial gas, or communication service to another state or political subdivision of another state are exempt from tax if that other state provides a similar reciprocal exemption for Iowa and its political subdivisions. The states known to provide a similar reciprocal exemption to Iowa and its subdivisions (as of October 1, 1998) are Illinois, Kentucky, North Dakota, South Dakota, and the District of Columbia.

    This rule is intended to implement Iowa Code section 422.45.
