Section 21.61.29. Anthrax—disposal.

  • All carcasses of animals dead or which have been killed on account of being infected with anthrax must be burned within 24 hours intact without removal of the hide, together with all contaminated flooring, mangers, feed racks, watering troughs, buckets, bedding, litter, soil and utensils. In case such flooring, mangers, feed racks, watering troughs, buckets, stanchions, etc., that have been contaminated are constructed of metal and cement or other fireproof material, they shall be disinfected thoroughly with cresolis compound, U.S.P. or any reliable disinfectant recommended by the B.A.I., chief of division of animal industry or a regularly qualified veterinarian. In the event the owner neglects or refuses to make such disposition of the carcasses of animals dead from anthrax within 24 hours, as stated above, then in such cases the disposal of the same shall be handled in accordance with rule 21—61.33(167).

    This rule is intended to implement Iowa Code section 167.13.
